Remembering Phoenix

It is with a heavy heart that I inform you of the sudden death of our beloved eaglet, Phoenix, of the Hornby Island Eagle Nest. She passed away on July 14, 2010. Her sudden death was caused by acute bilateral mycotic pneumonia. Although a rescue effort was underway, she died before help could arrive. Hatched on April 29, she was 76 days old and about two weeks away from fledging.

This is beautiful. I've been so upset about Paddy over at the WV. A friend said I might like to see this. I am so sorry for your loss. Phoenix was exquisite. I know she will always live in your hearts as Paddy will for me and many others.

@27Noodles59 Thank you for your kind comments... her death was so sudden. We will always remember her. There is a lot of tragedy in the lives of wild animals. We see only a small portion of it on the live video.

According to the necropsy, Phoenix died of acute bilateral mycotic pneumonia.  We found out Phoenix is a she.

I just learned about Phoenix. I'm sadened to say the least, but I kinda expected something happened. I've been looking daily at the webcam wondering what happened. I watched for the first time shortly after she was born and watched her daily in amazement. I miss her, but I'm very grateful for all's efforts in bringing this into my home.
