News reports say the Airbus took off to the north from LaGuardia and, over the town of Rye, hit a flock of geese at about 3000 feet. This video was taken about 2:45 today of a vee of geese going over New York Athletic Club and Glen Island, just 45 minutes before the midair collision.

In years past, the geese would have migrated south by mid-January. Several mild winters have put migration on hold. You could say that the crash was an indirect result of global warming. After all, if the birds had not been up there flying, this afternoon...
