  • @SealAngel People who are against this practice are looking at it through not just "one side of the lens" but through the animals side of the lens. I think someone needs to teach the South Africans responsible for this to look through the animals side also ;)

  • Peep you know I love you.

But one of the biggest challenges that faces animal rights is battling cultural or traditional practices as you put it. I understand where you're coming from but this is why people hate the activists because sometimes we only look at an issue through one side of the lens.

  • You're right? cruelty towards animals can't be justified out of tradition, although its often attempted to be with examples including the Canadian seal slaughter and the eating of dogs and cats in parts of Asia where they consider keeping a cat or dog for a pet an act of folly unlike the western world.

  • The best way for us to try and change these things is the art of gentle persuasion, if barbaric practices like this have existed for thousands of years and are considered the traditional or cultural right of the people who participate in them then the best way is to change hearts and minds which will take time.

  • It’s not like a black and white issue where a dog gets abused and you arrest and convict the offender. Animal cruelty that is the result of tradition or culture can only be cured through time and gentle persuasion.

Remember we’re looking at these people through our lens thinking it’s barbaric cruel and disgusting which it is. But they’re looking at us through their lens thinking why are these people against us what’s wrong with them?

  • But by using the art of gentle persuasion education and advocacy we can hopefully reduce and eventually stop altogether cultural or traditional practices that are just barbaric and sadistically cruel.

  • So damn sick!

  • woah

  • That's terrible! I'll write an email...

  • thats fucked up..
