I listened to him a lot in the 70's, and saw him live......Outstanding!!!

Whomever said he wasn't playing like this in the 70s is full of it. I have a recording of 4th floor walkup from then, and OMG, was it spectacular.

nah, ive had friends that heard him live recently, he was never playing on this kind of magnitude back in the 70s. Hes the most MUSICAL hes ever been, im not talking about chops, chops Bill will always be better than everyone even on a bad day so... yeah not counting that, the major thing thats different about Bill now than from 1970 is that he has the Freakish Chops thing going but with great musicality and such tastiness, whereas he was ALL chops in the 70s.
