On Veterans Day there have been ceremonies held across the US to honur the dead and wounded of its wars. Thousands of people have paid tribute to members of the US armed forces. But with the US still at war, there's particular focus on veterans of the Iraq and Afghanistan wars - who now number almost one and a half million men and women. President-elect Barack Obama has pledged to improve the government's care for veterans. But as Al Jazeera's Tom Ackerman reports, it won't come cheap.

  • I hope they get smarter. end that crappy war. its way to expensive.. think about the fucking poor americans in AMERIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIICAAA

  • If the governments lips move they are lying. Vets must stop fighting and "new recruits" must become an impossible phrase. We must acknowledge who the enemy actually is and take the fight to they... no overseas travel required.

  • wow hihihhahahahuhuhu wow

  • Konaboy7 ... Check your facts

Canada chose not to join the United States' "Coalition of the willing" during the invasion of Iraq. Since the United Nations did not approve of the preemptive strike, Canada declined involvement citing international law as the reason.

Canada did help train the Iraqi police force and that's it.

  • canada sent troops to iraq...

  • Well I had to rephase the question and the answer to that question when it was rephased was the complete opposite of what you first answered.

  • Hey I thought you would get the first time I answered, but you insisted.

  • So that would be a no.

  • No... I have no need to.

Canada isn't trying to protect itself from the blow back of a corrupt foreign policy past and present.

Canada, unlike the US didn't send troops into Iraq to try and monopolize oil currencies.

But if I did decide to serve in Canada's military, I wouldn't be fighting a bureaucracy, like the VA, for my health care, I would be receiving a annual salary 5 times higher than my American counter part and most of all, I would be serving a people that give a shit.

  • Here let me rephase the question, would serve canada if it wasn't invaded?
