It makes perfect sense, you just don't understand it. A&M was the first public University established in the state of Texas. Therefore, when t.u. came along some years later and were christened "THE University of Texas," Aggies felt it was ridiculous. Simple as that, and makes sense.

Texas A&M was not a private school. It was established under the Land Grant act, and was a public school funded by the government. Get your facts straight.
