William McMaster Murdoch served as First Officer aboard Titanic and was the acting Officer on duty when Titanic collided with the iceberg. He did everything he knew to avoid the collision, but fate would not allow it. One third of those who survived were put into boats by his own hand. Murdoch died in the disaster. His body was never found, but his name is still widely known to this day in his hometown of Dalbeattie, Scotland.

Officer Murdoch didn't break under physical and psychological stress and strain during the nightmare from hell that night (well until in the movie) his back was up against the railing from men, women and their scared children. When he pulled his gun out I was sadly surprised. Out of all the other officers he was the most professional, he sweat a gallon a min' but he kept everything under control till he unintentionally shot two men. He only wanted to save. Sad how they decided to kill himself.

when i watched this movie for my first time.when it was over my mom told me william murdoch was my great great grandfather. when she told me i was surprised. what was passed on in my family they said he was crushed by one of the funnels. no joke. may my great great grandfather r.i.p 1873-1912

@sailorwinxgirl the eyewitness accounts re all across the board, nobody figured out exactly how that night ended for him, "or so I read" lol
