  • Ditto Megaman2004X's comment: RIP Bob Urich. What a loss of a TV icon: he played so many memorable characters: Dan Tana (VEGA$), Officer Jim Street (SWAT) and arguably his greatest role: SPENSER. I LOVED this show when it came on in the '80s. He and Avery Brooks (Hawk) had great chemistry. You just can't recreate that (anyone remember Joe Mantegna's Spenser portrayal some years later? Didn't work for me.) If only the studio would get off their butts and release the series on DVD already!!

  • One of my fav detective shows along with NY Undercover, L&O:SVU, Miami Vice and Hill Street Blues

  • ...and also starring Larry Bird as Jesus

  • @blacktheknife I think this theme is a lot more sensual than Seasons 1 or 3. Really doesn't seem to fit the action/detective genre that much. Of course, that's not precisely Dorff's fault. It might just be the network's.

  • This takes me back to a great point in my life. I was a kid most of my childhood idols were still living, tv was great, music was great, a lot of family members were still living and people in the wrold were less sensitive and more caring. Man I need a time machine.

  • Spenser was a role model and hero for me when I was in college. His sense of concern for the human condition combined with duty and honor inspired me to pursue a career in the public sector.

  • All I can remember is Avery Brooks as Hawk...Spensaaar!

  • I love this theme version more polished than the first season. The sax and guitar are sweet.

  • @lennybaseball Interesting. The series had a lot of jokes about Belson being a donut cop.

    Thanks for the info.

  • @mofotax belson was a super thin guy with a five o'clock shadow at 9 in the morning and would stand and quietly absorb a crime scene and be able to recall it in detail months later. martin quirk was tall and built like spenser and hawk with precisely cut hair, neat suits that never showed a wrinkle and a desk that was usually clean except for a photo cube of his family.

  • @lennybaseball How were they described in the books?
