There are 40 million hungry people in East Africa. Monica Simon, in West Pokot, Kenya, is one of them. Her crops failed earlier this year and she is depending on picking leaves and wild fruit for food.
Meanwhile, Thabo Chidimba, in Rumphi, Malawi, used to be hungry, but isn't now, due to the support given to the Coalition of Women Farmers by ActionAid. She uses organic compost to boost her yield and produce from a communal irrigation plot bridges the gap between rain-fed harvests. She now not only feeds her family all year round, but has a surplus to sell, so that she can buy other necessities
