Such a beautiful scene. Peter Jackson tried to steal this (RotK Extended Edition), but totally failed to reach this level of awesome.

Very moving, the lyrics are derived from a poem from Spain and are over 400 years old. Narciso Serradel arranged what we might call the modern version and there are some wonderful cuts on youtube. There is also one by Cuban star Rosita Fornes which is outstanding or even Princes Christina who sings at a royal funneral for her uncle I beleive. Amazingly moving.

Chris-Pin Martin who played Chris the stagecoach stop owner in the original
Stagecoach,(the one whose apache wife got the Mexican cowboys to run off),
sang this song in the old movie "Heat Lightning" and sang it very beautifully.

Nothing like this rendition from the film. The good byes, the lingering kiss, the flower given to the gringo, the waving of the poor people who all grasped that this was a ride to their death. How beautiful and heart wrenching this particular scene was.
Sam Peckinpaw was a pure genius.
One of my all time favorite movies---and melodies.
