Another great stretch. My hamstrings are very tight. I'll report back in a few weeks with progress.

i commented on your butterfly pose video a while back, my hips have definatly gotten better (they are still a bit tight), but my hamstrings are really flexible (and always have been) for some reason! why is that?

I have super tight hamstrings and I always have tight muscles. I am just now getting back into yoga (I used to practice as a teenager). I have myositis, so my muscles are always inflamed and never relaxed, and I fear it's beginning to happen to my connective tissues as well. My doctor has encouraged me to look for yoga I can do, but even modified downward-facing dog is somewhat difficult because of how tall I am. I can't wait to go do this video and the sciatica/hip openers and see how it helps!

Thank you so much for your videos. Your instructions are very clear and you have a lovely calm way of delivering the message.

Hi Esther,
When I do the stretch pulling my leg over my body (not to the outside of my body) I have a lot of pain in both my hamstring and my calf. When I really push my heel downward, this pain intensifies. Sometimes it makes me feel nauseous. Is this normal?
After I finish your stretches, though, my legs feel so much more free, and they feel very warm!
Thank you so much for your videos, I love them!

Is that a windmill outside your window? PS Love the videos very cool Keep it up!

Thank you for your help Esther! I had no idea how tight my hamstrings were until I started getting knee pain last year as a side effect. My physio told me my hamstrings were 'so tight' for someone of my age and that they'd probably been like that since a growth spurt in my teenage years.
She recommended yoga exercise and these are perfect!

This didn't help me i still shake badly im 14 and i'm trying to convince my step dad to put me in yoga but he wants to know that i can do a lil bit of yoga so that i dont just give up in the class what do you suggest i'm desperate?!

@nilboo112 Hi, it takes a while to open your body up. Do it gently whatever you are doing, and give it time :-)
If you go to a complete beginners class, you should be fine. That is designed to help you further from scratch. Find a yoga school and inquire what they have for you. And than give that info to you step dad, maybe that will help. I do have some beginners series as well..

One leg worse than the other. thanks for the videos, what about a second one for core strengthening?!

Esther, what stretches would you recommend for someone who has very sore hamstring attachments (where the hamstring meets the butt)? They first became sore about a year ago while doing a lot of bike riding and have yet to heal.
Thanks for any help.

@spsugrad Hi Travis,
It sounds like your sciatic nerve is trapped.
You can try 'yoga for sciatica as posted above.
