Please enjoy this video from Crazy, the upcoming CD release from the baroque ensemble, I FURIOSI.

Georg Friedrich Handel was considered a bit dangerous and crazy in his day. When he wasn't getting into sword fights or storming around raving, he was writing impassioned operas. He wrote Cleopatra's aria, Piangerò la Sorte Mia,("I shall mourn my cruel fortune.."), portrayed and sung brilliantly by Gabrielle McLaughlin, to reflect her insanity at being imprisoned and at her authority being challenged. In the opera, she has just been defeated by Tolomeo and his army. Before this aria, Tolomeo sings "Domero la tua fierezza" (" I will tame you of your pride.") Thus humiliated, her anger drives her insane.

I FURIOSI are Aisslinn Nosky, violin; Felix Deak, cello; Julia Wedman, violin; and, Gabrielle McLaughlin, soprano.

  • Rushed, pressed, expressionless. This is a song of anguish! Of anger, then tears! She's just... standing there! Pronunciation is not so great, and vowels are dropped off as soon as sung. Some might hear fresh, I hear effortless, and not the good kind. I see.... pop singer. Which doesn't impress me. All these straight tones! Yeek! (Love the costumes/hair, though.)

  • well they were here in bloomington,in tonight, and nothing special....

  • True beauty! What an inspiring performance and album. This group is phenomenal!

  • i Furiosi - the Furious Ones? - is an amazing baroque group. Excellent music wonderfully executed. Bravo!!

  • Wow I love this sort of passionate/raw image of baroque music. I Furiosi players also have the coolest hair.

  • Wow, what an amazing dramatic performance. I hope you can come down to California one day so I can see it live.

  • Wow! -a stunningly beautiful voice set in a very cleanly articulated and engaging ensemble performance. The result is truly heavenly music. Thanks for the experience.
