This is AMAZING!!!! I never knew such a pianist ever lived in Thirunelveli :o) Good to see such a talent, I am also from Thirunelveli, I play a LOT of Liszt and Chopin :o)

@peepzer Mr. Cleophas Antony was a humble classical music teacher from Palayamkottai. Besides piano, he also played Cello, Violin and Guitar very well. He worked very hard to keep classical music alive in the southern part of Tamilnadu.

@peepzer He was one of the best sight readers I've ever met and it was his natural gift. I once requested him to play Beethoven's "Pathetique Sonata" (1st and 3rd movements) and he sight-readed them with only very few mistakes. He said that he was playing that piece after almost 20 years! Given proper encouragement and recognition, I'm sure that musicians like him would have contributed more quality works to our community.

@peepzer My brother Cleophas is probably the best classical pianist ever from Tamil Nadu. He mastered all of Liszt and Chopin by the age of 16, even before palayamkottai had a music book store. Unfortunately he never recorded any of his piano playing. Before his demise he started the Trinity college of London's examination center in Palayamkottai. I still have some of the impromptu sessions of his playing. His biggest asset was he could play any written music due to his uncanny sight-reading.
