This is the first animated short I've worked on in about two years. One of my favorite bands is the charming tweepop duo from Hong Kong, my little airport. When I first heard their song 馬田的心事 (Martin's Mind), I felt compelled to create animation to accompany it because the lyrics struck a chord with me. I began storyboarding part of it last December and had been working on it on and off since then. It's somewhere between an animatic and animation since it would be unrealistic for me to create a fully animated short in such a small window of time. I recognize that this isn't "good animation", but I may go back and clean it up sometime later. I'm most proud of the fence scene, which happens to be the first one I worked on. The ending was the only part that I hadn't planned out beforehand, and it developed organically as I was working on the animation. It was cool to see what spontaneously burst from my mind as I worked. I have an idea for a resolution at the end. I guess we'll see if I will get to it...
Other than the brief speaking part, the lyrics don't correspond to the action, so they're not all that important to watch the short. If you're curious about what the song is about, here's the gist of it: A guy is debating whether or not to reveal his feelings to his crush because he's uncertain of what would happen. He hates how she makes him feel, yet can't figure out why he wants to keep trying.
