All food has a edible portion and an inedible portion. She's not wasting anything. And it is always cheaper to buy whole then to pay someone else to cut it up for you.

keep in mind, she was being wasteful. by the time she finished cutting 60% of the pineapple was in the trash, but i completely agree with you. its cheaper and easier to buy food pre-cut.
