Getting serious with the tools at hand, I dial up some axe use for us with the Gransfors Brüks small Forest Axe in Part 4 of Moonscape. We are at about 9500 ft elevation, it is spring, but we are still on about eight feet of snow. I am impressed with how sharp that sucker is leading to some excellent camp capabilities if you employ good technique. If your system can take its 37 ounces (heavy) then it can serve you well. We manage all the work on the deep snow but it doesn't slow us down much. Splitting logs, sharpening stakes, crosscutting, and making a wood wedge ensue. And we're not done with the Buck Hoodlum either and it again proves itself very capable in the woods. It's one of the lightests large survival blades around. I especially am impressed with its edge holding through all the work. The also excellent Ontario SP-46 comes out for some action as well and does great. I had anticipated that I would have to edit this testing down but even in post production it holds my interest and if you're interested in woods tools, it might for you as well. Cr0cket20 and I pick it up again in Part 4 with some spear manufacturing ;-0 //////////////////////////Music licensed to TNP from Jason Shaw.

  • Hey nutnfancy, suck less! Review a tomahawk like the kind the army issues to 1 in 4 members of a squad....m48 I think it is

  • The Eastwing ax is great for breaking up ice in the winter. Or as a boat anchor.

  • finally got the right tool for the job but bought into the hype the Granfors Bruks is a beautiful axe but you need to get a bahco a little heaver head that does more work and about 1/3rd the price and with about a hour to get the face into shape works beautifully.

  • @MansTrueNature You can't go out in the bush expecting to swing an axe like Jose Bautista swings a bat without a LOT of practice.

  • My eyes are opened. The big blade is so much better. Oh wow.

  • great tribute.

  • esee junglas or buck hoodlum, have you done a review on the esee junglas would be nice to see, trying to decide between the 2 of them. There is a buck hoodlum failure on youtube right at the notch.

  • @Kylef7735 It's not really that much practice needed :)

Try to think on how you'd swing a baseballbat. You'd want to build up as much kenetic energy as you can before impact, but you will be doing it by speed and not by strenght. The axe works the same way. Of course a bat doesn't have sharp edges and an axe does, so you want to make sure that if you miss the axe will go straight into the ground rather than your leg or foot.

That was a shortened version, but YT doesn't allow longer comments.

  • @agonyismyfriend Nope, but you dont know them (its obvious from your comment) and i know i dont know you so im not even gonna guess.

  • @Kylef7735 and you know me?
