The water crisis in Darfur is compounded by the violence that continues in that country. For centuries villages have depended on water ponds that fill during the rainy season for water year-round. But the ongoing drought, coupled with continuing violence, has developed into a crisis of biblical proportions. Long lines at the water well creates pressure on hand pumps that were not designed for heavy use. Thirst No More restored 60 pumps in Northern Darfur during 2008.
