Old Upright piano Krakauer & brothers upright grand

Sorry for the poor audio, it does not show the true sound of this piano. In real life it is not all distorted and quiet.

I still am shocked I only payed $50 for this piano. The guy was moving to Washington, and this could not come.

He had totally restored it. Everything is almost new! Strings, dampers, felts, pins, keys, and it was refinished!


I say it in the video. I have played a $61,000 steinway at the store, and I think my piano can out beat it for sound, and volume!

It sure is better than the grand piano at my grandmas house!

It needs tuning. But Im looking to do it myself.

As for the sound of Steinways in the showroom - pianos usually are sent without much prep work and dealers aren't willing to spend the money necessary to prep them. I'd also bet your grandmother's grand didn't recieve the recent rebuilding this piano had - maintaince is very important for good piano sound. - Concert Grands in Carnegie hall are not neglected and expecting any pianist to sound good on a neglected piano is wishful thinking at best. Great buy - did you make a profit selling it?

Unfortunatly I didnt make a profit selling it. I had it apraised at $10,000. But I was in a rush to buy a erard from 1855. So i sold this piano for $600. The deal didnt go through in the end so I ended up with nothing.

happy to say that I found a much better piano! I just got a 1905 Story and Clark special upright piano. There is no other piano like it in the world! Its beautifully carved with big round colums all around it even on the sides. Its unrestored but is like new.

infact story and clark wanted to buy the piano and put it in the front of their building and display it because its so special.

Is this your piano you had to sell, Brandon? It needs a tune but looks in great shape. I wish i could have an acoustic piano in my apartment. I have to make-do with my digital Yamaha piano and the organ :)

Yes it is. It is still at my house. The lady is waiting for some movers to find a time to come get it. Aparently the store is packed full for moving till the end of the month. She has payed me for it.

My beloved piano is no more. It looks unused, no Joke. There is not a scratch on it at all.

The middle pedal on the piano is just a dummy pedal it was a sales gimmic at the time. Now that piano sounded great just needed tuning. Im about to do similar work on a piano I am restoring, maybe I will post a vid of what it sounds like when I get the soundboard repaird and the strings on.

This is an amazing piano. I had a full grand upright for many years and used to love playing it. What a wonderful treasure.

This sounds like a great blues upright piano. You should play some old blues on it :-D

Nice. The best old upright I have ever played was an A B Chase, made in 1917. Had the burl veneer like this one, but the middle pedal was a sostenuto like a grand. Original strings still sounded new. A B Chase was among the best of their day, and one in good shape or rebuilt is worth investing in. I have thought about trading my rebuilt Baldwin Grand for that old upright if the lady that has it would consider it..

And a concert grand will set you back probably well over $200,000 from them! Steinways are about $160,000 or so for concert grands.

I love Baldwins. Older ones that is. Ones made before 1980. Fantastic very very very well built pianos. Top grade. I have a 1922 now. Got it for free. its a model H, which is now the model R, a 5'8" grand. Beautiful, great full sound.

@umajunkcollector I personally think the most beautiful piano sound in the world may currently be the overs piano made in austarlia - you can look the site up online and even download mp3s - the one of Rachmaninoff's variations is pretty spectacular sounding. I've never seen a steinway and Bosendorfer side by side but, I have played on both. I'm not sure how many overs are in the US but, I know it was a sensation at the piano technicians guild conference...

@tnmtemerity A 9' concert "Stoneway" (haha The Flintstones) is beautiful. no doubt. But I think the ultimate concert grand is the Bosendorfer! Last I heard, either will set you back over 60K$! IF you compairreed them side by side, i think you'd agree that the Bosendorfer is just beautiful! I hear that Roland digitized the Bosendorfer for their electronic keyboards. I like the sound of a Baldwin for a poor man's grand.

We HAD a 1907 Francis Bacon player pianee. It sure was fun, miss it. We sold it to a lady cheap, and she had some wimpy guys move it for her = they broke our front porch steps ala BOOM on the fist step, too heavy at over 500#. We also had a 54 Marshall Wendall player back in 79, nice sounding - with lots of rolls too. My brother is a piano technician and tuner.

Sometimes the two pedals are a split damper for bass/treble.
