http://www.mum.edu Created by MUM students Hagen Rainbow and Sudevi Mossé. "Have you ever wondered what's been missing from your education? At MUM, Consciousness-Based education connects everything you learn to the underlying wholeness of life."

Hagen and Sudevi are blogging at http://blog.mum.edu to let you know what it's like being a student here. Check it out!

Maharishi University of Management (MUM) offers undergraduate and graduate degree programs in the arts, sciences, business, and humanities. The University is accredited through the doctoral level by the Higher Learning Commission.

Founded in 1971 by Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, the University features Consciousness-Based education to develop students' inner potential. All students and faculty practice the Transcendental Meditation technique, which extensive published research has found boosts learning ability, improves brain functioning, and reduces stress.

Maharishi University uses the block system in which each student takes one course at a time. Students report they learn more without the stress of taking 4-5 courses at once.

The University has a strong focus on sustainability and natural health, and serves organic vegetarian meals. The B.S. in Sustainable Living is MUM's most popular undergraduate major.

  • Great idea!

How would a 39 year old student fit in/be welcomed?

  • There are a lot of older students here, people who tried college and it didn't work for them. Watch "What makes MUM unique?" Because everyone here is meditating and growing as a person, they recognize that in everyone around them, and so there's a great feeling of acceptance.

You might want to go on our website (link is up to the right of the video window)& contact one of our Admissions Counselors. They can answer your questions, and maybe put you in contact with one of our older students.

  • @fridajack Check out our video "You're going to college?!" Three of our older students talk about their experiences here at MUM. There's also a longer video that gives their full conversation -- lots of good advice for non-18-year-olds who are thinking of going back to college.

  • i love it haha.

any of you guys go to the school?

I'm considering applying there. But it's such a different school.

  • Yeah, all of us in the video are MUM students. it really is a different school, and that's what makes it great. The focus isn't just on cramming information into your head, it's about developing your self so you can do what you want to do.

You might want to check out some of our other videos, some are by students What Makes MUM Unique, and A Day in Our Lives. And come to a Visitors Weekend and meet us and talk. Then you can find out whether this place is real, and whether it's for you.

  • @MaharishiUniversity It seems like the work load is really light though? The students view it as a way to learn the subject better, but i believe the brain can adapt to different subjects at one time.

  • It's not stressful but it's challenging. If you're going to learn the subject, then you've got to put in the effort and the time. Nothing can change that. But we can make it less stressful and more meaningful.

Yes, the brain adapts to learning different subjects, but we find it's more effective to focus on one subject at a time. And if the brain is stressed/fatigued, the frontal lobes turn off and you can't learn well or think deeply. You might want to watch "What's missing from education?"

  • Great spoof.

  • I agree with that.

  • hello Frida!....I presently am a student at this university and am 33. I thought for sure I'd be the oldest student but you'd be surprised! I have classmates and friends who are in their teens, 20's, 30's, 40's, 50's and even 60's! everyone just seems to fit in perfectly!

  • @MaharishiUniversity Okay, challenging is good. I agree that less stressful makes it more meaningful.

one subject at a time... okay

Thank you very much for your response! I'll check the video out.
