The song "Fairytale", a country song, written by Anita and Bonnie Pointer, reached number 13 on the pop charts, and number 37 on the country charts. Based on this success the group was invited to Nashville, Tennessee where they achieved the rare distinction of becoming the first black female singers to perform at the Grand Ole Opry. In 1975 the Pointer Sisters won their first Grammy Award for Best Country Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal for "Fairytale" , and Anita and Bonnie were nominated as songwriters for the Grammy Award for Best Country Song. The song would later be covered by artist such as Elvis Presley.

  • I'm a white guy and geeez ,i love this song. the pointer sisters were great and still are. Thanks safari.

  • I can listen to this over and over and over and never get tired of it.This just goes to prove that good music is good music. Don't matter if it's country, gospel, rock and roll or disco. And the color of the performer matters none in the least. I'll keep enjoying this as long as I live!

  • I'm Black and also like Country Music. Favorites are Marty Robbins,Waylon Jennings,Hank Williams Sr,Patsy Cline,Johnny Cash,Merle Haggard,Alabama,Don Williams, and Others of what is called Old School. It is important to remember that older Country had more of it's roots from Gospel,Ballad,Blues, and Folk Harmony. More spirit and soul in it than the 1980s to Present called Country.
