i agree with you (miharare) people have to cook and feed their families. Its called survival. Those that have not lived here dont understand how folks can cut trees down. Its a way of living for the people here. They do the best they can to survive under their current situation. I am not Malagasy but have lived here for 7 years. Despite it all, Madagascar is still a beautiful place to live and visit. Just make sure you have lots of time as the island is HUGE.!!!

I am from Madagascar. You need to know and understand the reason why people burn the forests, It is really bad for the envirnoment , and I am against it , but at the same time it is part of people's way of living. To change that habit needs a huge coordination and a change of way of life and living condition nationwide, which is far from possible for the time being

its sad such a beautiful place get destroy for agriculture purposes..they know control they keep burning the land, about 90% of the species in madagascar from trees 2 animals dont exsist anywere else in the world...IT BREAKS MY HEART KNOWING THAT WE AS HUMANS KNOW IS WRONG AND WE STILL GO N CLEAR N BURN ABOUT THE SIZE OF GEORGIA EVERY SINGLE YEAR OF FOREST...
