Bert Shepard was my Mothers cousin From Dana, IN. Also home of Iconic WWII reporter Ernie Pyle. In 1944 Bert's P-38 lighting was shot down over Germany. A German Military Dr pulled him from the wreckage & @ gunpoint held back farmers threatening to finish Shepard off with pitchforks. He Awoke in a hospital as a POW. His mangled leg was amputated. As the years rolled Shepard remained intrigued that how he survived his crash & in 1992 He was able to reunite with that German Dr that saved his life

Just learned of both of these today. Pretty remarkable and inspirational. Want to see Gray's movie. Will ask Netflix to obtain it.
