Wind turbine construction workshop course in Belgium with Jay Hudnall of Tripalium / Ti'eole and Vincent Judalet from ÉolSenegal. Jay brought a 3.6 metre grid tied machine and we built a 2.4 diameter battery charger (24V) Also Davide brought a 1.2 diameter, 12V turbine for overhaul.

  • Yes you are right it is essential to be able to survive strong winds. The tail is what protects the turbine. When the wind is strong the tail folds and allows the turbine to face sideways. I have used this system for thirty years.

It is also possible to stop the turbine manually by short circuiting the output with a 'brake switch'. But I only use this when the turbine needs to be lowered for maintenance.

  • félicitation belle vidéo mais ne fallait-il pas prévoir un système de freinage pour évite les vitesses excessives ?

  • bonne idée mais que de je , je et puis pas d'esprit d'écoute

  • Hi Hugh, yes that's a nice wet stone for sharpening the draw knife. It has a rest to hold the knife at the correct angle consistently. I unfortunately don't have a sharpening tool like that, but it gives me good enough idea.

I do have your recipe book and have been working on the smallest turbine, more or less as a hobby really, on and off for a few years (mostly off, haha!). But I'm having a real blast doing it. I will try to send along some pics to you via email soon.

  • Nice video ! tres bon !
