MxO Finale

An overview of the Matrix Online with some footage from the final day of the game before the servers shutdown.

This is mostly here just as a record of some of the game design choices I found intriguing. Please excuse my distorted, sickly voice.

I can't believe I forgot to go over one of my favorite features. Emotes. From GiantBomb:

"The emote system is fairly elaborate in that it's not limited to single player actions like in other MMO titles. Two-player emotes are possible and, with both players consent, two characters can shake hands, kiss, slap one another and bump fists amongst many other animations. In addition to the emotes are moods that, when activated, alter the idle and movement animations of the character, allowing players to better convey their emotions while in a state of roleplay."

I love all the people cursing SoE for shutting down the game, if there is not enough people playing the game to support the servers, then you have to shut down the game. There not going to keep it open for just a few people. Cursing SoE for shutting down this lackluster MMO (face it, compared to other MMO's it sucks) its really immature and shows the lack of knowledge on your end. Grow up people.

@AllenMac15 Nobody's really against them for shutting down a MMO on its last legs. When people say SoE "killed it" they refer to them purchasing it and then doing nothing with it, other than gutting the combat system. It was a cash-in, not something they really wanted to invest in. The game had a strong focus on the continuing story and live events, which they quickly gave up on. So no surprise it then began a slow decline.

But good job showing your lack of knowledge on the situation. Pro move.

MXO was my first MMO. I was part of the beta team. Never played an MMO before. I loved Monlith. Live event team was great! Everything was awsome till SOE took over. They only brought this game to get a Contract with Warner Brothers so they can make there DC Universe. DO NOT PLAY IT. If you loved MXO. Tell SOE to Kiss your ass and play City of Heros.

Look up "mxo server emulator".

From what I've heard, a lot of it doesn't work, but you CAN play this game, and I think missions too. Kind of tricky to get it up and running, tho. I kinda wish they'd done it with the original retail MxO, before Sony butchered it and filled it up with advertisements.

I played MxO way back in the day. I was just a stupid kid who didn't know how to properly play an mmo, but it was still a really fun experience (partly because I was a sucker for the Matrix at the time). I had to stop playing because my crap computer of the time couldn't really handle it and my allowance just wasn't enough to keep paying for subscription fees. I wanted to get back into it not too long ago just to find out about everything that happened leading up to the games death. Sad day.
