  • @CarthyOnline thanks !

There's also a Mudcat Cafe thread discussing some slight variations of the words, including the confusion over the phrase towards the end which could be either "made an awful paltune" or "made an awful pall tune" or even "Awful poltroon" (or possible be something entirely different!). Google "awful pall tune" (again, including the quotation marks) to find this thread.

You can't post links here but it's number 2539 in the Roud song index so you can get a version of the words from Rod Stradling by Googling "Roud 2539" (including the quotation marks).

  • Is this form the Ewan Maccoll tribute concert? Does anybody know where I can find the lyrics for this?

  • I agree entirely with your comment, BigCatamaran

  • Beautiful, and sad enough to make an angel weep. You can hear the age in his voice, but it doesn't hurt the performance at all. I looked Martin Carthy up after hearing his performance of "Hog Eye Man," on this site, which was in one of the pirate movies with Johnny Depp. I can't get it out of my head!

  • great! martin's voice is still amazing.

    I love him.
