@sondano Yeah it didn't happen that way because in those several years, both Star Trek and Eddie Murphy-vehicles were by far the biggest box-office draws for Paramount Pictures, their two Golden Geese.
But they, after discussion, mutually agreed that it was too much of a chancy gamble for all parties concerned. If it had failed, it would have killed BOTH Golden Geese in the same motion and NO ONE would have gotten any more Golden Eggs, not Murphy, Star Trek, or Paramount either.

After 30 years and countless viewings I still laugh out loud every time I watch this concert. No comedian has ever been or will ever be more funny than Mr Murphy was during this show.
