  • new "GENESIS" power units as well?

one thing I have noticed about US power units, they all seem to have just one cab, is there a particular reason for this, as most European locomotives, such as the UK Class 37, Class 47, and Class 86, have a cab at each end of the locomotive.

  • @Xantec Depends on what you consider to be new - those units were built in 2001.

I would have to think they're cheaper with only one cab, but I wouldn't really know. Besides that, the only reason I can think of is that the U.S. has plenty of wyes and turntables to turn locomotives. Also, most trains run with at least 2 locomotives, so they can be run back-to-back and have a cab at each end that way.

  • Wow, the mountains made that horn sound sweet!

  • Yeah, they always sound good down in valleys.

  • I like the engines and there horns there better as the horns from European trains!

    great video

  • Thanks!

  • I traveled on this one to Harpers Ferry

  • @tyronewright64 ca right? what line?

  • if only it got 184, it already had 66 leading, i like how they get the heritages to lead, kinda better publicity, thought of more as pride and power than a helper.

  • @Xantec When it comes do Diesel locomotives they always have only one cab on each locomotive. Sometimes these locomotives will be used in pairs with back to back coupling and a runaround or will be one locomotive per end (rare). However on smaller trains this is inefficient so they use cab cars (cars with controls and no motor) on the other end instead. The only locomotives to actually have duel cabs are electric such as the Acela HHP-8, AEM-7, AEM-7AC, and ALP-47.

  • fi just got a vid of this tarin 29 today at harpers ferry

  • i just saw 154 in oakland a hour ago
