45407 (5407) Lancashire Fusilier on the "alternative route" Cotton Mill Express (Manchester Victoria - Bolton - Darwen - Blackburn - Hellifield - Settle Jtn - Carnforth - Preston - Wigan NW - Bolton - Manchester Victoria) at Entwistle, Gisburn, Giggleswick Bank and Lostock Hall on a wet and windy Saturday 25th October 2008.

  • Grand video Chris - it's nearly 10 years since I went to Entwistle to see 48773. You could walk all the way to the end of the platform then, but good to see it's still a great location. Like the alternate angle at Giggleswick too - well captured in grotty weather.

  • Thanks David. It's nice to be able to find somewhere on the climb to Sough. As I said, my original plan was to try where I think you were but I sprained my foot at Diggle on the last CME and didn't fancy risking the walk across the fields. Would have been a shame if we'd both finished up with the same footage. The shot at Giggleswick was terribly rushed so I was lucky to get anything. Shame she slipped as I was looking forward to more of that fabulous exhaust there. Chris

  • Great locations and masterly video. Thanks

  • Thanks John - that's very kind. Chris

  • Lovely video Chris and thanks for sharing it, you certainly got about yesterday!

    Neil.

  • Thanks Neil. I just thought I'd come this far I may as well see what else I can get. Sorry I missed the meet at MV though. Chris

  • Thanks Bob. Couldn't believe how few people there seemed about, just 4 others at Entwistle, on my own at Giggleswick and Preston and only one nearby at Gisburn. Guess the weather played a part in that. Chris

  • Thanks Ryan. Managed to catch her working a couple of times which usually makes for good viewing. I think she did famously especially with the railhead conditions. Chris

  • Thanks Ralph. I also saw you near Settle Junction when I was struggling with the traffic to get in front of the train. Only just got the shot on Giggleswick Bank with the tripod only barely up. Looked like another good trip. Chris

  • Thanks - bit of a tatty day but the loco performed brilliantly. Chris

  • Thanks Austin. Could have been much better but some things we have no control over. Chris

  • Thanks Steve - it was a bit daft but once you're out in it you may as well carry on. Chris

  • Thanks Elaine. I guess winter is fast approaching on both sides of the pond. Suspect you might get the worst - good luck. Chris
