Violent Crime; South Africa, WHY? & what is the solution?

A 'layman' gives his insight and theory into why we have unique violent crime in South Africa. I attribute the base of the violent crime to the damage done to the 'Lost Generation' during the period 1984 to 1994. Many with a link to the Townships in this period will challenge this link, so I need to define this group. Born during the period 1972 to 1976, (give or take a year) they did not escape the turmoil in the Townships that were racked by violence conducted by the youth, did not go to schools outside these Townships, or were lucky enough to be in a school run by a religious group, they missed school for a few years, many never going back. They are the youth who participated in the 'necklacing' and were involved in stealing from the targets, the delivery vehicles.
My friend Bkheki, on the "Black & White Intercourse" initiative describes these children as thugs, they defined themselves as activists, occasionally 'comtsotsis', admitting to crime and violence. Whether we define them as liberators, activists, or thugs, their lives were seriously impacted on, their life skills not developed, and if anything destroyed.
In our programs I challenge the 'poverty' theory, I personally identify the boredom and lack of self-respect as the prime motivator. Bheki will challenge me, mainly based on the white leaders and business people that have destroyed other nations and people in their interests of enrichment, I accept that there is a link there.
I further acknowledge that whites have caused damage to our indigenous communities, and that many of the white youth during the 1984 to 1994, suffered damage.
We talk 'enrichment' for the damaged, we talk about our white children not been disadvantaged, but we believe that healing can only take place through integration of our previously advantaged community with the 'presently disadvantaged communities'.
We invite debate, only through interaction and comment, can we heal.
