What is poverty? Having little to no money? Having little to no means of support? Who is poor? People without homes? Without the basic necessities?

Those people aren't poor. They are rich in mind and spirit. They just need a little assistance in making that quality apparent. They look just like you and me. In fact, under a veil of ignorance*, we'd all be the same. So, why does poverty even exist?

We've focused our efforts toward fighting modern-day issues... Yet we've forgotten the one issue that has always been present. We fight for our rights, but we forget those who are left behind. I repeat, why does poverty even exist?

We are a group of students at a reputable university and graduated professionals. We have been given the gift of education, but many children have been denied that very valuable gift. Many cannot fathom receiving that gift. By unwrapping our books, we've vanquished boundaries of knowledge previously deemed insurmountable. We have the resources...

Poverty, hunger, improper health practices... They are all avoidable consequences of illiteracy and a combination of other factors.

Come learn more about why we should care about indigence and the simple things we all can do to help. You may learn more than you think from this event.

Why should you come if there isn't any prize? No free food... No performances? ... You should come because this issue affects you more closely than you may know. You probably don't think about it everyday, but hundreds of millions of people around the world feel its pressure.

You will get something even more precious than a simple prize: knowledge and compassion.

Many organizations out there are on a mission. The same mission we're on, in fact. But we are stronger together than we are alone. To promote solidarity amongst organizations with similar causes, this awareness forum will be the beginning of unity for participating groups (listed below).

Make a Wish from the heart & change the world. One country at a time.

Organizations participating/presenting at the forum:
-Project Literacy
-Project RISHI
-Gawad Kalinga at UCLA
-Hunger Project
-Hope 4 Homeless Project
-Vibha
