Ever wonder how you can relearn the Tire Pressure Monitors without the activation tool? Well, here it is. Since TPMS has been made mandatory for all cars since the 2008 model year, I believe GM wanted to design the system so anyone can do it as standardizing TPMS already further drives up the cost of new cars; as do so many of the other BS requirements. This procedure which you see in this video is probably true for all GM's starting in the 2008 model year.

The only other thing I want to point out is that order does matter

1st: Left-Front

2nd: Right-Front

3rd: Right-Rear

4th: Left-Rear

  • i have an 08 cobalt with manual locks and transmission. do you know if i should get the honking noise as confirmation after relearning each sensor (my car has never honked without me hitting the horn before)?

  • @cyctem05of05, yes, that is part of the TPMS communicating with the BCM; the BCM honks the horn. On a newer car like this when you hit the horn button it does not go directly to the rely per se, but rather, it goes as an inout to the BCM and then the BCM sends current to the relay which then honks the horn. The tire pressure module also communicates with the BCM and can honk the horn that way. This Cobalt was also a base just like yours. Hopefully that cleared up a few things for you.

  • does this only work with factory rims?

  • @Defjam744, this will work with any rim GM or non-GM. It's all in the sensor & the system reads the sensor; it will not know what rim it's on. The only thing about a rim that you do need to look out for is that the rim can take a tire pressure sensor. That is why when you select rims always do it by the vehicle & answer all the questions.

  • @suburbanator91 That is so cool!! Thank you so much for sharing this. It REALLY does work. I have a 2012 Chevy Cruze that I just put new wheels & snow tires on. I didn't know I needed a tool to relearn the TPMS until after I changed the wheels. I Googled it, found this video so I decided to try it & it worked!! Thank you again so much for saving me from buying a tool!!

  • @spreadthepeace, glad this worked for you & i am glad this was able to help you out; now I know that this works on the Cruze as well.

  • Thanks so much....both for the humor and the procedure!

  • Awesome man just saved me a trip to the dealer

  • Very helpful but i wouldn't inflate my tires to 60 PSI 40 is fine as your only holding the gauge or whatever tool your using to deflate your tire there for ~5 seconds which is only losing 5 PSI tops during the procedure.

  • Thanks Suburbanator91. I used your procedure on my 2011 Chevy Traverse and it worked perfectly. I had to push the unlock & lock button on my keyfob to get the car in tire pressure relearn mode but it stated this in the owners manual. Otherwise your procedure was perfect. Thanks again.

  • Lots of extra jibber jabber, its usually easier to just get to the point of the video.

  • Thanks for the video!! This worked on my o7 avelanche
