beautiful Paia Hawaii

This is the little plantation town of Paia, Hawaii that grew up in back in the 60's and 70s. Not a very big town as you can see but everybody knew everybody. The japanese mission was just down the street from the house that I grew up in. The beach is called Paia Bay and me and the other neighborhood kids played there all the time. In one of the pictures it shows Paia Bay and at the end of the bay towards the end of the picture you can see the big Norfolk Pine and that is where my family lived and where my auntie now lives. That thing that's on the rocks there was a WWII lookout that was built after the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor in 1941. All the neigborhood kids played on that we would play wargames.

thanks! That is the Mantokuji Buddhist Temple founded in 1906 in the tradition of the Japanese Soto Zen Buddhism. That cemetary holds over 600 graves. i would love to go back there to live someday.

wow I grew up in skill village right up the road from the mill. and i'd sometimes go to the beach by that cemetary, but i never knew anything about paia's history. thanks for sharing.
