This is the opening of the 1964 Walt Disney movie "The Moon-spinners", directed by James Neilson. I have seen it like 1000 times when I was a child, so I HAD to post it.
I love the song, it's Moon spinners by Terry Gilkyson.

Lyric

Moon-spinners
spin me a moon tonight

Moon-spinners, spin it
with a silver light

Spinning on the sea
Let the waters glow

Shine it on the treasures
Lying far below

Spin your threads tonight
Let the moon stay bright

So my love may bring
A bracelet or ring

Just to hear my heart sing
At the sight

(Humming)

Moon-spinners
Spin me a moon tonight

Moon-spinners,
spin it with a silver light

Spinning on the sea
Let the waters glow

Shine it on the treasures
Lying far below

  • Does the mom in this movie collect folk music?

  • @yayap001 yes she does :-) I even posted a sequence of the movie where she was recording a popular Cretan song ;-)

  • Does this movie have a woman who owns two cheetahs as her pets in it? I'm trying to find that movie, and I think this movie may be it o.O

  • @frostyh81 YEP, that's it :-)

  • I saw this about 4 times when it first came out and loved it then. I wanted so badly to wake up at Haley Mills as a child, I loved all her movies! I fell in love with Greece while watching this. Uncle Walt was a talented and creative genius....and is sorely missed.

  • @madamequeen123

very true, I miss Walt too, he was just great.

  • The book's great, and I do think it shows and describes the sceneries even more thoroughly, but the plot's a bit different and it has more twists! I highly recommend it!

  • The title of this light hearted romantic thriller gave me the name which I use for my youtube channel and oh yes it's a very enjoyable picture as well.

  • I adore this moie!!! its one of my fav's!!!

  • When I was in the 6th grade I saw this movie about 9 times. I was very much in love with Peter McEnery and Greece. Thanks for posting this. I did find it in DVD.

  • great book by Mary Stewart!!

  • Perhaps someday a worthy screen version of Mary Stewart's legendary suspense novel will be produced; but this '64 effort, unfaithful to the novel's storyline, is not it. Peter McEnery seems well cast as Mark Langley, though. How about casting James McAvoy in a remake? Other Stewart novels--e.g. Madam, Will You Talk?, Nine Coaches Waiting, Airs Above The Ground--might lend themselves to screen adaptation as well.

  • I loved this mocie as a kid. Thanks for posting it.
