  • HA that's what it was like in the old days. XD

  • Fencing can be as much about biding your time and sizing up an opponent before doing anything than being all hack and slash. Depends on the fencers too. Some are really energetic and other bouts go slower.

Foil is different from epee and sabre; different rules, different tactics, ect. Personally I find foil and sabre to be more exciting.

  • Below should read "know nothing" ...

  • I nothing about fencing; the few other fights I've seen bored me; two guys staring at each other before making a dash and that's it..over....bloody boring but this is great stuff! Is foil different to other forms of fencing? This comment will obviously piss some peope off..excuse my ignorance.I won't be accepting your challenge to a duel, but I'm quite handy with my fists

  • The most interesting thing to watch in this bout is Schlectweg's footwork, he uses the soft repeating pattern that's quite common of the top women's foilists like Vezzali and Gruchala, but quite uncommon in the men's game.

It keeps him very balanced, making it hard for Ganeev to take control, and makes it very hard to see when his attack is coming. Watch the first hit. Great example.

Ganeev gets suckered into Schlectweg's footwork and is left completely trapped by the attack.

  • I think so. One can still demonstrate athleticism and dexterity, but it's like what court jousting was to an actual fight between two horsed opponents.

  • No, I love fencing. Ppl here take light-hearted comments far too personally. All I was saying (as I recall) is that fencing as it is now bears little resemblance to 'real fighting'--but why should it? After all, as you say, it is a sport and it's simply not sporting to kill your opponent , lol

  • Yeah. They also aren't trying to actually kill or seriously injure each other. Yup, fencing has become a modern sport. Gotta problem with that?

    ^_^

  • guys watch my fencing vid of me in the BYC's

  • If he keeps his point down he invites attacks but he also can vary the speed of the bout from that position its extremly clever his first hit as an example. slow up slow slow slow the FAST as hell to get the hit. Its really god foil.
