@akamarutv Listening to some Haba right now, first impression is : quarter tones are just as problematic as minor harmony in 12tet (precisely the minor third and major sixth) : harmony which happens far in the harmonic series (3rd and 5th, or even worse, anything and 7th), has to be justly tuned in my opinion, while perfect and major can be played a few cents away from their just intonations... The genesis of Quarter Comma Meantone was based on this simple principle...

@JhighJoe yeah I know, I love microtonality because it gives use new feelings and expressions but why does it seem like when someone does something microtonal, it's always way too stylistically different to understand it. Take Haba for example, he did some quarter tone pieces but the style was his own and I don't like his style personally (no offence to anyone that does, he's a great musician) it's just I like Dante Rosati cause he plays microtonal stuff with a classical feel which is nice.

@akamarutv Mmm... I don't know how "common" microtonal stuff is or isn't, but one thing I noticed is that too many of it is different from what most people hear not just in terms of tuning. For simple instance, indian music is nothing near classical or popular music in terms of rythm and acoustic : people might see a microtonal piece as weird because of those elements, not actually because of tuning, and think they don't like microtonality for reasons that have nothing to do with it...

This is one of my all time favorite microtonal pieces, I think the main reason microtonal is not common is because people don't want to modify they're instruments and you can't play microtonal on regular instruments as easily.
