Theodore Gray and Max Whitby created the 20-foot media column which now towers over the Horiba Exhibit Hall at the Chemical Heritage Foundation (CHF) in Philadelphia. One side is a video column of seamless plasma screens that give a stunning presentation of the periodic table of the elements, illustrating the appearance and behavior of each element, from its basic form to its use in the real world — from spectrophotometers to billiard balls. Many of the objects are from CHFs collections and are part of its permanent exhibition, Making Modernity. The animation eventually forms the elements into a portrait of Dmitri Mendeleev, the developer of the modern periodic table.
