American capitalism is a thinly veiled corporatist economic approach that essentially undermines development for as long as possible so as to keep people buying certain products.
The loss of trains and good commuting public transit is nothing more than corporate influence in politics whereby big oil and car companies lobby for reduced spending in public infrastructure. Both parties are bad for it, but the Republicans don't even hide the fact that this is their agenda. People just don't see it.
I should think given his remarkable contribution to humanity for 30-40 years, we can afford to provide him with climate control, clothes, books (he's probably written that much himself!), indoor plumbing (seriously, you begrudge him this?), a sandwich (a bowl of rice might be suitable according to conservatives as long as THEY get their steak, the masses can eat cake, right?), glasses (perhaps we're pushing it?), selectively free speech, thank god he's still alive-it gives other hope.

He's sitting in an air-conditioned room, wearing machine-stitched clothes, surrounded by books, near indoor plumbing, eating complementary food, filling his plump over-nutritioned belly, looking through scientifically-designed glasses, talking with freedom of speech, at an age far beyond historical human life expectancy, and he has the nerve to call the nation around him a third-world country?
Noam Chomsky isn't just wrong. He's a disgusting piece of shit.
Let the guy finish his sandwich! Seriously though, the poor guy is in such high demand to be interviewed that he's precluded from getting a lunch break.
