In this video, Melling technical director George Richmond explains the difference between oil pump volume and oil pump pressure. See more about Melling at www.melling.com
First thing that should be checked befor anything is the oil pressure sender, 70% of the time the pressure is fine the sender is just going bad sending a false signal to the gauge. Second thing that should be checked is the filter and pressure release. In carbureted systems the PCV is rarely ever the cause for high pressure unless there is a carb issue. Outside of these it would likely be a clogged line or engine port (this is why the filter should be checked).
@yumyumsashimi Of course not entire unit, it could be bad relief valve...the best solution for u is to measure the oil pressure in your engine at some specialist or disassemble the relief valve (spring) , clean it and assemble it back!!! All of this u have to do if u are so sure that the all other solutions are impossible, and that your pressure is too high, over 6 bars!!!
I have a 68 Chrysler 440 that sat for 20 + years and I put on a new filter and oil and got it running bit it keeps blowing oil past the oil filter gasket so do you think my valve is bad too and should I replace the entire unite? Thanks!
Bad relief valve, spring that man in this video show, thats it!!! Could be spike, and may blow your oil filter or engine if oil pre. is more than 8 bars!!!!!!!
thanks for the information. I never really knew the difference between the pumps.

@yumyumsashimi too much crankcase pressure get a new pcv valve and check the rubber hoses
