One ff doesn't speak for all. The pledge doesn't sound very consistent with either the champions of liberty that insisted on the Bill of Rights nor the states rights advocates that saw the federal government as a threat to their sovereign states.

well, francais bellamy, a founding father, wrote it, so I don't see how that is possible. It was written without the words "under god" though. those weren't added until 1954.

1954 to be exact. It was supposed to be used as this unifying god shield to protect us from the "godless communists".

I like the pledge although I think in our times it seems a bit archaic. I think it was established around the time of WW2 and was meant to rally the people into being patriotic. Patriotism comes from the heart not from recited words, but I still love it and will gladly recite it.

I don't think the forefathers would have liked any version of the Pledge.
You may be right, but I think that it is a matter of perspective.
I am a supporter of the ideals that were set forth by the forefathers and that is what I give my allegiance to, that is what the flag is representing. It is just that today, our system of government has fallen so far away from its original ideals, that supporting the pledge would give appearance to some type of blind support for it, which I don't want any part of.
