  • Ok, can someone please explain how there are chords in this intro melody? It just sounds like a bassline...I do not hear any real chords being played at all.

  • @xUnrealTx It's hard to hear in the mix on the original recording, but there are some clean chords being played in the background. The jamtrackcentral Erotic Cakes package, which has the original backings, allows to hear them clearer.

  • @Tzachi076S Hey there the chords over the intro melody are ||: F#m E/F# :|| Bm7 C#m7 | F#m E/F# F#m | second section | Dsus2 Esus2 | F#m E/F# F#m | Dsus2 Esus2 | Bm11 |

    I recommend checking out the Erotic Cakes TAB and backing tracks from jamtrackcentral :) even has tips from Guthrie himself about how to solo over the backings

  • thanks! Some of us just don't have the time to transcribe music, this is very helpful.

  • This video went viral on Havana

  • @rickneibauer1 BTW these are the chords as written in the jamtrackcentral chord charts, overseen by Guthrie himself. In fact in a recent interview Guthrie mentioned being proud of the harmonies he had written on that album :)

  • @rickneibauer1 The clean guitar part plays an F#m barre chord off the A string to the barre finger like x-9-11-11-10-x to x-9-9-9-9-x or F#m to E/F#, a very F# Aeolian chord vamp :). The bass is playing a C# over that E/F# so you could say overall harmony is C#m11 hence why a C#m7 would sound fine too, or as you say even stripping it back to C#m. Just depends on how much of the original harmonic flavour you are wanting in your interpretation.

  • @mastertheguitar what is this E/F#? Are talking about when the bass kind of hammers on to the F# from the E? To me, the basic chord prog sounds like this: F#m, C#m7, F#m, C#m7, Bm7, C#m7, F#m, F#m... next part of intro Dmaj7, Em, F#m, F#m, Dmaj7, E7, Bm7. You could technically play 5th chords or just strait major or minors throughout the whole thing and it would still sound good. I guess I'm not getting why you have all of the sus2nd's and Bm 11's... Taste?

  • @mastertheguitar Man thank you so much! Now i can have hours of improvisation fun lol

  • @Crazytjeuh First solo section chords are E F#m A/C# D then E F#m Bm11 :)

  • @mastertheguitar hey man do you know what the 4 chords are that are being played in the solo section? I just can't seem to find them out
