This is a comparison of boot speed of a Dell Inspiron Mini 9 running Windows XP Home SP3 and Ubuntu 8.10 + UNR. They are on systems with the exact same hardware:
Intel 1.6ghz Atom CPU
1GB RAM
8GB SSD
Bluetooth
1.3MP Webcam

  • Good video man, although nobody wants to watch it apparently. I would think a tweaked xp netbook would post a little faster. If you still have these around test a firefox page loading with each at the same time.

  • Already did and it is uploaded :) Enjoy it.

  • aff fala muito e noa entendo nada

  • Great vid, although i don't understand why the power light for the Ubuntu machine was on at the start? Was it charging or something?

  • um..it was off

  • Inaccurate test

  • faaa q mal q estas flaco!!! de one que querias q xp iniciara primero prendiendolo antes, y con ubuntu se te iniciaron varios programas, y el 8.10 comparalo por lomenos con el vista no??? jajja

  • Misleading. Everybody knows ubuntu is faster than windows. I have windows on my computer but I just ordered my mini 9 with ubuntu. Then I am ordering a runcore SSD chip which should make it twice as fast.

  • Dell's Ubuntu version installed on the Mini9 is faster to boot that this version. At least 12s faster to get the desktop compared to the appearance of the desktop wallpaper on the 8.10 version on this video. And my Mini9 is starting a small webserver, so I guess it could be a bit faster.

  • How is the 8gb ssd working out for you?

  • in windows xp you have also need to load an anti virus, a firewall, a virtual daemon(tools) and many more... try booting again after 4 weeks of use

  • Great vid man! THX really need this to help me choose :D
