your baby doesn't start breathing until it emerges from the vagina or from the water (which is kept at body temperature) and hits air. Until then it receives oxygen via the placenta. Being in water allowed me to change positions easily (didn't feel my weight), eased pain and I picked up both my boys when they were born (nobody pulled them out or handed them to me.) I had one birth out of water and it doesn't compare to birthing in water.

i heard that also in some countries that you can give birth underwater.

For me this is good as I am getting induced today. Apart from the stuff they will give me to induce me I am having a drug free birth.
