12-12-11. Piper Seminole N572AT KMYF - KOKB - KCRQ - KMYF. IFR Departure into a heavy rainstorm. Video shot continuously from time of departure on 10L up 4,000 ft MSL. Freezing level at 6,000. This video only captures the first 8 minutes of a 2 hr 30 minute flight in intense IMC. (battery died) The real downpour starts to begin at the end of the video. It increased in intensity from there with some hail for 10 minutes before lessening intensity. At the end of the video you can hear one engine breifly cough as it is obviously taking in moisture. Heavy precipitation, freezing rain, and wind sheer is not recommended for small aircraft. This was a training flight to demonstrate the power of bad weather. Had we been 2,000 ft higher, we might not have returned. The average life span of a VFR pilot who has entered clouds is less than three minutes. We were in these condtions for over 2 hours.
