I took the plung and decided to remove the front element of my Canon EF-S 17-55mm f/2.8 IS USM lens. This is a detailed video procedure for removing the front element and it even discusses calibrating the lens for any front/back focus issues. Please reference further discussion and details pertaining to this video at motleypixel.com PERFORM THIS PROCEDURE AT YOUR OWN RISK

  • Wish I'd seen this tutorial a couple of years ago, I sent my 17-55mm off to get it calibrated as it was short focusing. Cost me around £130 !!!

  • @richandiben money worth spent...don't feel bad, this wouldn't have fixed your front-focusing issues. It's best Canon adjusts electronically rather than trying a mechanical work-around. Thanks for the comment.

  • Tried it on my sigma and worked out grat thanks. Didn't have any locktite though will this have a big affect?

  • @marcot64 no you'll be fine w/o locktite...good to hear your success.

  • i hope this works for the kit lens, cuz over here theres no techs to clean it. id have to send it to another city, and its so overpriced, im not gona pay someone to do such a simple task hehe ;)
