[ December 22nd 2004 ]

The clock chimed 7 o'clock and there was a light knock on the front door. Selena quickly adjusted her magenta scarf in the oval hallway mirror before she headed for the door. She peeked through the keyhole and could see Leighton. She unlocked the door and opened it with a radiant smile spread across her face. "Hey Leighton" she said brightly stepping back to let her enter her apartment.



"Hey Sel" she greeted her happily as she gave her a hug. "All set for the fireworks?" she inquired.



She nodded and grabbed her bag from the table. "All ready" she replied.



"I forgot to ask, how was baking with Nick?" she asked raising her eyebrows curiously.



Selena felt the heat rise above her scarf. "It was actually really great," she said with a smile stretched across her face.



A grin tugged at the corner of Leighton's lips. "I knew you would"



"Well" Selena looked at her watch, "let's go to the firework show we don't want to be late"

When they arrived at the local park the residents of Brookfield were already sitting on the grass, eating, laughing and talking. There was a campfire burning merrily in the center, providing both light and warmth. Leighton and Selena choose a spot and sat down. "Oh look whose here" Leighton said.



"Hello ladies, mind if I join you?" Nick asked in a soothing voice.



"Not at all Nick" Leighton smiled and moved up so he could sit. "I'm just going to get a drink I'll be back" she winked at Nick and gave him knowing look to make a move.



"Did your parents like the desserts?" she asked.



"Yes they did. Speaking of parents, I was wondering, do you want to come over for dinner with my parents tomorrow?" he asked softly with a smile hoping she would say yes.



She turned to face him her eyes widened in shock, "Ohh, I don't mean to pry," she said warily.



"Not at all, I want to invite you. You've helped me settle into this town and I just want to you to meet them" he explained.



"Ok sure, I'd love to come" she said as bit her bottom lip nervously.



"Great! I'll pick you up at eight," he said ecstatically with a smile tugged at the corner of his lips.



They both just stared at each other when the fireworks started to explode in different directions, creating a wonderful array of colours. Some took different shapes whilst other sprawled abstractly across the sky, painting it with sparkling colours. She looked up and smiled unaware of Nick's arm draped around her shoulder.



"They're beautiful aren't they?" she said softly as she gazed at the fireworks, her chocolate orbs glistening in admiration.



"Yes, they are" he said looking at her, but of course he wasn't talking about the show.
