Jota Caviteña, as performed by USC Troy Philippines in our 17th annual Pilipino American Culture Night (PACN) "Daddy's Getting Married." **Rights belong to USC Troy Philippines**

Coordinated by USC Troy Phi's Vincent Mejia (member of Sining Ginto dance troupe), with the gracious assistance of Tita Chona (longtime member of the Bayanihan Dance Company and Sining Ginto founder) and the Sining Ginto troupe dancers

As a courtesy, please enjoy our performance for viewing purposes and respect the creativity and hard work our coordinators and choreographers put into this spectacular suite. Thank you to our wonderful family and friends who supported us along the way of producing, perfecting and finally showcasing our PACN! Congratulations to our PACN coordinators Bruce Cabanayan and Vince Mejia for an AMAZING, UNFORGETTABLE show!

  • My fave Philippine Jota!

  • @keinsz Ahh! Es muy interesante :D. I think the song with lyrics makes the dance much more charming and gives it a personality. I've always wondered why most of Filipino dances are just instrumentals, compared to lets say Japanese or Chinese dances, They're not, the lyrics have just been forgotten.

  • @Aruchinjiru yes sir. actually the lyrics for this Jota is actually available here in youtube. Just type "La Jota Filipina" by youtube account username "fonsucu".

  • I think during the Spanish era up until the American invasion, a lot of our Spanish influenced dances would have had Spanish lyrics.

They probably ommit it, especially when Spanish was abolished. It's only recent they try to revive it again, abolishing Spanish was completely unneccesary.

  • Jotas always have lyrics, part of the lyrics for this one is:

-Son mas dulces que el almíbar

    las mujeres a los 15

    y a partir de los 40

    más amargas que el acíbar-
