The race challenges filmmakers to produce a 5 minute short based on a surprise theme, and includes a surprise element.
The theme for this competition was "Forever" and the element to be included as a prop in the film was a photograph.
We produced the film using a controversial snapshot of myself wearing red tape. The photograph was initially meant to represent red tape causing hunger. (i.e. bureacracy causes poverty and hunger).
The picture has since taken on new meaning for me, ultimately coming to symbolize my feeling of being stifled and unable to communicate at all because of red tape.
The film is meant to be an experience for the viewer, a trip inside my mind, and ultimately takes place inside theirs.
I consider this to be one of my more solid creative concepts, it is well rounded and accomplishes its task swiftly.
Good art takes place inside the mind of the audience, in this case through my own eyes lens.
The picture slowly becoming clearer causes the audience to submerge themselves from curiosity.
The soundtrack is meant to initiate a growing irritation, giving the audience another sensory vacuum to explore.
The writing ultimately expresses the theme of the film, sometimes 5 minutes does feel like forever.
The title correctly expresses what one would utter upon realization, and presupposes an interjection, which is what film is.
Brilliant, absolutely brilliant.
