In this episode of Tales of Tomorrow, titled The Evil Within, Peter (Rod Steiger) is a self-absorbed research scientist working on a serum that destroys inhibitions and causes evil behavior. He arrives home one night proclaiming that he has finally perfected the serum. He stores it in the refrigerator because the lab's refrigerator is broken.

His wife, Annie (Margaret Phillips), is very pleased with Peter's news because she wants to spend more time with him. Peter announces, however, that he must now begin work on the antidote and is utterly indifferent to his wife's needs.

Annie is lonely and resentful of the time Peter is devoting to his work and tells him so but her words only bring vague reassurances from her husband. Peter leaves to return to the lab and Annie, left all alone, decides to eat a piece of pie. The pie in the refrigerator.

James Dean appears as Peter's lab assistant, Ralph.

  • i just wanna say that he couldnt act to save his life. and that any tom dick or harry could have gotten famous back then. if they thought he was good.a monkey was probably better.

  • it's interesting - Steiger's performance has dated terrible (along with Margaret phillips)... But Dean's could have been minted yesterday; unfazed, as he is, by accidentally knocking over of a test-tube - there's someone living in the moment - as opposed to the other two desperately trying to create a moment... interesting.

  • Great little short film..

  • Thanx...
