1970 World Cup: Italy vs West Germany (Part 1)

"The Match of the Century" is how this mythical encounter between the two giants of European football is now known to fans of both countries. Italy were reigning European Champions, West Germany were reaching their peak with Beckenbaueur proving himself to be one of the greatest players of all time. Uwe Seeler in his fourth World Cup at the age of 34 had lost none of his tenacity and audacious skill as his ingenius backwards header goal against England in the epic quarter-final clash proved. The Italians take the lead after only 8 minute with a fine strike by Boninsegna and the Germans respond with strong attacking, but their iron-clad defence, marshalled by the great Giacinto Facchetti is to prove almost impenetrable. What followed was one of the memorable battles in football history.
