First of all, I want to give a big thank you to Rob Bourassa (robbourassaguitarist) for letting me using his enchanting rendition of September Song for this video. This is one talented musician, and I encourage you to check out his channel.

Sassy and I rode for about an hour today in the sunshine (got chased by a big dog at one point, so we did a little motivated trotting for a hundred yards or so), and after we pulled back into the arena, I dismounted, took off all her tack, and then we did our after-ride hugs and love, and it was clear she wasn't done yet. After I had put all the tack away, she wouldn't follow me to the gate, not wanting to go back to pasture. She sniffed around the mounting block ("More riding!"), but I didn't want to haul out the tack again, so I decided to try something we had not done before--sail totally tackless, just me and the horse (I seem to have left my helmet in the locker here as well). I wanted this "first" filmed, of course, and Sassy always knows when she has an audience, so at first the hambone kept coming back in to have her picture taken, but I kept leg-cuing her out into wider and wider circles until we were finally moving in full range around the arena. We are not going to make Stacy Westfall lose any sleep at this point, but I was really happy with how we did for this beginning effort at man and horse with no artificial controls.

O, and last time someone mentioned the place on her left shoulder...she is just rubbing that in her sleep or something, and we have put some medicated cream on it and will continue treating it. But it is fine ; )

Also, as many of Sassy's fans already know, we now have a Facebook group called "Sassy's Stable" where horse people can come and take part in relaxing, laid-back sharing about their experiences with their horses. Come join us!
